A few months ago, I was doing a lot of driving. I was taking road trips up and down the coast of California, visiting National Parks, and making part-time food deliveries using Postmate
I was spending a lot of time in the car, using the GPS on my phone, and finally decided o step my cell phone holder game up a bit.
I wanted something that could hold my phone securely at eye level so that I could easily read the turn by turn navigation, and was also easy to get my phone in and out of when I was making frequent stops for Postmates pickups and drop-offs.
It's important to note that I use a PopSocket PopGrip, or extendable grip, on the back of all my phones for the added versatility and ergonomics. However, I had to go through a few phone holders until I found one that works best with my phone and PopGrip combo.
Here are the ones that I tried with my 5 star rating of each.
1. Cell Phone Holder for Car by Auto Tech

This was the first cell phone holder for the car that I bought in 2017. It's an extremely simple design that clips onto the air vents in your car and your phone is placed inside by sliding open the spring-loaded clamp and placing your phone within the devices grip.
Note that the skinny design allows the holder to grip your phone above or below where a PopSocket would likely be attached on the back of your phone.
For more than a year this was a working option for me, but I became frustrated when my phone would periodically fall off of the car vent with the grip still attached due to the phone's weight and the holder's single mounting grip.
This is a good budget phone holder that attaches to your cars air vents, and can hold your phone with a PopSocket attached. However, due to the single mounting grip, lack of security, and noisy spring mechanism, I give this holder a 3 out of 5.

2. Car Phone Mount by Mpow

When I first considered upgrading my cell phone holder, I tried this model by Mpow. I really liked that this mount had the option to pivot and extend perfectly towards my view, due to it's ball joint and adjustable arm. It also had a more sophisticated grip that can accommodate phones 4-6 inches wide.
However, due to the larger surface area of the phone holder, I was not able to place my phone within this mount securely and the quick-release button got stuck a few times and didn't allow the phone to come loose.
The pivoting base, telescopic arm, and bottom ledge with an opening for a charging cable were all great features that weren't found on the Auto Tech holder. Conversely, the flimsy quick-release button and lack of compatibility with my PopSocket made me return this phone holder a few days later.

3. Car Phone Mount by AOGOGO

I was excited to try out the Car Phone Mount by AOGOGO due to it's short, sleek, and sturdy design that is meant to be mounted on your dashboard or the windshield of your car.
Despite a firm locking mechanism on the front, I had a problem getting this mount to adhere to my dashboard, and when trying to affix it to my windshield, the short design without an extending arm wouldn't allow my phone to fit into the grip without being impeded by my car windshield.
There is also a quick release button on this model, that separates holder from the mount, but the button is fingernail-sized and requires significant pressure to get it to release.
Despite it's strong base and 360-degree rotation, there were too many factors that made this item not a fit for my phone and car setup.

4. Pop Clip Car Mount by FITFORT

As finding a car phone holder that was compatible with my PopSocket was a major criteria, I tried out the Pop Clip Car Mount by FITFORT because it was designed specifically for phones with PopSockets. FITFORT even included a free PopSocket with this mount.
What is good about this option is the mounting grip can be adjusted via the twisting lock, squeezing the air vent for more secure placement, and the ball joint allows 360-degree rotation. What isn't so good about this option is the difficulty of placing and removing your phone within the PopSocket holder.
You need to be very precise with your placement, given the centimeter thinness of the PopSocket on your phone and the equally thin opening of the holder. Removing your device can sometimes take more than one hand, and you'll likely be extending your PopSocket and pushing it back in a few times before you can actually get it out of the holder.

5. Windscreen Phone Holder by IRVZHI

My current phone holder for the car, is the Windowscreen Phone Holder by IRVZHI. This has been the best universal phone holders based on design and functionality with my phone and PopGrip, and is also labeled an Amazon's Choice for it's high reviews.
The grip opens with ease and still holds my phone securely with enough space for my PopSocket to fit in unobstructed. The base adheres perfectly to my windshield or dashboard and the bendable arm is rigid and doesn't collapse under the weight of my phone.
The grip is lined with sturdy rubber and grasps the sides of your phone softly and secure. Due to it's placement on my dashboard, this holder obstructs my view only slightly compared to other vent clipping mounts, but is easily the best car phone holder I've used so far that is also compatible with my PopSocket PopGrip.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
6. Car Phone Mount by Lamicall

A close runner up is the Car Phone Mount by Lamicall. This phone holder comes with two mounting grips that fit more securely to your car's air vents to prevent it from falling. You can also spin the holder 360 degrees, even though I'm not sure why you'd need to.
The spring loaded closing mechanism is a lot smoother on the Lamicall model than the AutoTech version mentioned above, and is also very quiet, making almost no sound when opening and closing.
This type of mount still doesn't allow you to angle or adjust your phone perfectly towards your line of sight, but does overcomes the security problems found on the Auto Tech model for only a few dollars more.
